Bhai Dooj Best Wishes And Messages

Is Rakshabandhan is the only festival to define the love between brother and sister? The answer will be definitely no, why? Because there is one more festival  Bhaiyadooj which comes on the third day after Diwali and second on Holi every year. Bhaiya Dooj is celebrating this year on November 16, 2020.

Bhai Dooj, Bhau beej, Bhai Tika, Bhai phonta are other names of this festival. But, in the majority of regions in India, this festival is popularly known as Bhai Dooj.

Significance of Bhai Dooj

Bhai Dooj is a symbol of a sister’s protection of her brother’s well-being and his long life. In West Bengal, it is known as Phota, Bhao Beej in Maharashtra and Goa. In northern India, it is popular as Bhai dooj and Yama Dwitiya in Southern states. Rituals are performed on the second day after the new moon. One such ritual is sister marks the Teeka on her brother’s forehead, offers him sweets and in return receive gifts.

Bhai Dooj Stories

Stories are a modified form of Emotional thoughts. These stories have been transferred from generation to generation by ear and mouth and by carefully stored scriptures.

Story of Yamraj and Yamuna

Lord Yamraj and Yamuna were the children of God Surya and his wife Chhaya. Yamraj, the Lord of Death, visited his sister Yami on this day. She welcomed him warmly by applying a tilak on his forehead. The idea is that anyone who receives a tilak from his sister on this day is saved from the harsh agony of hell-fire.

Story of Lord Krishna and Subhadra

After the day Lord Krishna killed the demon Narakasur, he visited his sister Subhadra on Dooj day. She gave him a traditional, affectionate welcome by applied tilak on his forehead.

It leaves a smile on my face when I think of those trifling fights we had and suddenly used to make up. The memories may fade away with passing time but the love we share will only grow. Happy Bhaidooj Dear.
