On Wednesday, successful Bollywood star Akshay Kumar appeared before SIT, i.e. special investigation team. It is due to probing the firing on Sikh protestors by police in Punjab’s Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan three years ago following a series of incidents of sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. However, Akshay Kumar does not have any direct connection with 2015 police firing case. Sit wanted to examine him regarding that matter. This is because his name was mentioned in a report on sacrilege incidents which was tabled in Punjab Vidhan Sabha August 2018.
Today Akshay Kumar reached Punjab Police headquarters in Chandigarh sharp at 9:30 am. He arrived here following the notice which was sent by a special team under Section 160 of Code of Criminal Procedure, i.e. CrPC on 11th November to appear.
All about the incident
The SIT team is inquiring the firings in Kotkapura as well as Behbal Kalan following when pages of Sri Guru Granth Sahib were found torn in Bargari in 2015. Two people were killed in Behbal Kalan in that firing. Earlier also Akshay Kumar was asked to appear at the Amritsar Circuit House for his investigation as a witness in a case registered at Kotkapura police station. Later on SIT decided to record his statement at Punjab Police headquarters, after a request by Akshay Kumar Mumbai based counsel.
As the name of Akshay Kumar was mentioned in the report by the Justice Ranjit Singh Commission, owing to this Sit is questioning him. The report was tabled in Punjab Assembly in August 2018 on incidents of sacrilege in the state. This report which was tabled referred to a letter received from former MLA Harbans Jalal written on 9th October 2017. The letter claimed that in 2015, a meeting took place amid deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh at Akshay Kumar flat in Mumbai.
This meeting was arranged to facilitate the release of the Dera head movie named ‘The Messenger of God-2’.
This meeting took place prior to Dera Chief was pardoned in Punjab in a blasphemy case. After that in 2015, the movie MSG was not released in Punjab owing to an announcement by the Supreme temporal of the Sikhs ‘The Akal Takht’ against it.
In the letter by Jalal, it was also clarified that the discussions in that meeting at Akshay Kumar flat also comprises the pardon offering to Dera chief head by The Akal Takht regarding blasphemy case, though he stated that his claims were totally based on hearsay.
Akshay Kumar reaction regarding the matter
On the other hand, Akshay Kumar denied this meeting with Dera head who is at present serving twenty years of jail term in a rape case. He also denied regarding the meeting which was arranged by him between Singh and Sukhbir Singh Badal. In the tweet h also dared that ‘anybody to prove his statement wrong’. Akshay Kumar also issued the denial on 12th November following the SIT summoned him with SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal and former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal.
