Indian Armed Forces Given Full Freedom: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh held a high-level meeting on Sunday in Ladakh with Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat and the heads of the three armed forces.
Sources told the news agency PTI-Bhasha after the defense minister’s meeting that the armed forces have been given full freedom to deal with any offensive by the Chinese military on the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
In addition, Indian forces have been asked to be fully prepared to respond to any lingering mischief in East Ladakh and other sectors. According to sources, from now onwards India will adopt different strategic methods to protect the border against China.
Sources told the news agency that top military officials have been instructed to keep a close watch on China’s movements in the ground border, airspace, and strategic sea lanes.
Significantly, the ongoing confrontation between India and Chinese troops in the Galwan valley of eastern Ladakh took violent form on Monday. In the skirmish with China on the Line of Actual Control (LAC), 20 soldiers, including India’s commanding officer (colonel), were killed.
At the same time, 43 Chinese soldiers were also killed in retaliation. With this, many were seriously injured. According to the army, the skirmish took place during the retreat of the jawans from their respective places. However, there was no firing by the troops from either side, but each other was attacked with stones and batons.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also told political parties in an all-party meeting on Friday that the armies have been given full leeway to take appropriate action. He said, ‘Our forces are fully capable of defending the borders. India wants peace and friendship, but protecting our sovereignty is paramount for us.’
Prime Minister Modi had said that in such a situation, while on one hand, we have allowed the army to take appropriate steps at its level, on the other hand, by diplomatic means, China has made its point clear.
At the same time, US President Donald Trump also gave a statement about the tension on the growing border between India and China. President Trump has said that the United States is ready to assist in the resolution of the ongoing conflict between the two countries following the recent violent skirmishes on the border between India and China.
